Last week, we brought you our latest monthly installment of producers you need to know and now it’s time for our other monthly feature that aims to hip you to artists you might not be familiar with just yet. The five rappers we’ve chosen to spotlight here make for a diverse crew hailing from different cities across the U.S. But as you’ll notice once you begin reading this piece, the Midwest actually ended up getting a good amount of love this time around.
There are some good reasons for that middle-of-the-map appreciation, though. For one, we couldn’t stop looking to the Windy City for inspiration. Additionally, Minneapolis-based indie rap powerhouse Rhymesayers just so happened to add a new artist to its roster while we were writing this feature. Not only that, but a longtime Potholes favorite is making a resurgence as a solo artist and we were beyond-compelled to share his latest work with you. Hopefully you are all as moved by these acts as we are and remember: Hit the comments section with any recommendations of artists you think deserve more attention from us and the hip-hop community at large.
