5 Hip-Hop Acts You Need To Know (June 2013)

Elaquent

Calls home: Guelph, Ontario

Latest release: Parallel

Producers are a dime-a-dozen these days, but only a select few are cranking out tunes with any sort of replay value. We’d have to put Elaquent in that latter category, as the Ontario-based artists continues to cook up silky smooth beats for his strong following to enjoy. His most recent release Parallel served as a launch pad of sorts, as it was surrounded by loads of buzz for both the right and wrong reasons.

And with the release of Parallel came new opportunities for Elaquent, as he now gears up to release what is shaping up to be his most expansive work to date. The release is called Believing and it is set to drop June 24. Our most recent taste came by way of “The Journey“, which was filled with rich layers of jazzy hip-hop. That particular record will find a home in HW&W, who are champions of all things instrumental.—David Reyneke

the world desperately needs to know more about Mick Jenkins and Martin $ky, both are artists from Chicago. Mick’s “Trees & Truths project is the best hip hop release so far in 2013 (IMO, of course) and Martin should be releaseing TIMEless sometime soon but has a wealth of other material that is currently available.
