The other day OB hipped me to some fine Dallas hip-hop from an emcee by the name of, Chucky Sly. Hadn’t heard of him before, but this guy has skills. And not only is he a menace on the mic, but he has an excellent taste for beats. In fact, the album will feature such producers as S1, Illmind, Dubb Crawford, and more… As we wait for the album to drop, check out this sampler blended beautifully by DJ Second Sense, and let us know what you think!
I’m really anticipating the new Clipse album dropping next month. After that we should have De La Soul, Reflection Eternal and The Roots all dropping in early 2010. Maybe its just me, but it seems like we have less groups in hip-hop right now that can have actual success in the underground and mainstream arena. This is a glaring trend in comparison to the last two decades. When I think of great groups like The Beastie Boys and A Tribe Called Quest, the focus was less on who was the best emcee and more about how great the music was. Read the rest of this entry »
Haj shot this over earlier today, a fresh tape from Philly’s own, DN3. Not really sure what this is (Mixtape, EP, LP), but I am just going to go ahead and call it a collection of dopeness. DN3 has beats, plain and simple. And not only do we get some fresh instrumentals, but cats like Random, Donwill, Elucid, Jermiside, Musiq, Frank-N-Dank and more are featured on here.
