To celebrate the release of his new album Nickel & Dimed, Michigan producer (and sometimes rapper) 14KT has unleashed his future-funk collaboration with Blu to the world. “Paid” is a shimmering slab of hip-hop with Blu taking the wheel via assonance-laced bars that reflect on his travels, smoking blunts, and just trying to get, well, paid. It’s a little all over the place, but it’s also a ridiculous amount of fun. Some of our favorite Blu verses might be more focused, but we can’t help but dig when he tries his hand at something looser, too. That’s especially true when the beat sounds this nice.
