Scarface & Beanie Sigel – Mac N Brad
In March 2012, DJ Statik Selektah broke the news that Scarface and Beanie Sigel were finally poised to release a joint project, Mac N Brad. It seemed a little odd that they would wait this long in their respective careers to team up for a full-length, but better late than never, right? Sure, but here’s the thing: We probably won’t ever hear Mac N Brad. In an interview with FUSE at 2013 Paid Dues, Scarface was straight and to the point when asked about it. “It’s not gonna happen,” he replied and the whole world sighed collectively.
Cults – Untitled Rap Mixtape
In the summer of 2011, buzzing indie duo Cults made some sizable hype waves with the announcement of … a rap mixtape. OK, to be fair, they never said that they would be rapping on it, but they had apparently already recorded tracks with the likes of Freddie Gibbs and Lil B. They even dropped a track featuring Gibbs that wasn’t bad in the least bit. But, similar to so many projects like this, the thing disintegrated before we were able to anything else off it. Consider this another hype-building announcement that might live on someone’s hard-drive until some bored intern decides to leak it.
Dr. Dre & Timbaland – Chairmen of the Boards
Some of y’all might remember this announcement, some of y’all (including me) won’t. But back in September 2001, Timbaland revealed that he and Dr. Dre were working on a joint album called Chairmen of the Boards. In this interview with MTV, Tim said that they had been talking about doing the project for several months at that pint. He even noted that other super-producers were looking to get involved, though it would likely remain a Tim and Dre joint. File this one under: Yeah, no way. Timmy’s way too preoccupied with his Shock Value III and the second 20/20 Experience while Dre has probably more going on than he should.
